The Mattice – Val Côté Public Library was established in November 1975, a few months following the municipality’s incorporation. Initially located inside the elementary school, the library moved into the basement of the municipal complex in 1976, which served as its home base for more than 40 years. In the fall of 2018, the library moved into the renovated and expanded premises of the École St-François Xavier Catholic school at 189 Balmoral Avenue in Mattice. While this resulted in a loss of space and autonomy, it proved to be a very beneficial move in terms of accessibility as the school is located in the village and the library can now be accessed at ground level.

The Mattice – Val Côté Public Library offers a variety of educational, informative, and entertaining material to residents. There, you will find newspapers, magazines, children’s books, romance novels, documents, biographies, DVDs, and much more! The public can also use the library’s computers and tablets.

Listed below are some of the many services available at the library:

Book loans for all ages, large character books, magazines, puzzles, DVDs, audiobooks and electronic resources;
Inter-library loans;
Research and referral assistance;
Bags to-go (include a book, a DVD and a puzzle for children);
Photocopy, digitization and lamination services;
Computers and Wi-Fi access;
Transfers from VHS to DVD format;
Various programs and services, including a summer reading club for kids;
Organization of events such as presentations by book authors, seminars and information sessions;
A children’s corner, complete with a technological centre and a craft area equipped with a Cricut machine;
The sale of the local history book "Si Missinaibi m’était conté", Tomes I and II
